What to Consider
Each district has different resources, needs, and priorities. If you are thinking about building or improving a candidate support system, we've put together some considerations to help.
Professional Learning Facilitators
Professional Learning Facilitators (PLFs) are trained to mentor candidates. You can compensate PLFs to mentor your candidates if you have a need to seek support outside of your district.

Examples
Fleming County Schools supports candidates through a district cohort led by a NBCT classroom teacher. Candidates apply as spots are limited. Candidates receive financial assistance with component costs.
Washington County Schools began supporting candidates before having a base of NBCTs to support the work in district. The district compensated a NBCT from another district to lead a cohort, sent candidates to KEA trainings, and provided financial assistance while building capacity.
McCracken County Schools supports candidates through a district cohort led by a NBCT classroom teacher. Candidates apply as spots are limited. Candidates start with the same component (2) receiving intensive support during the first year.
Spencer County Schools identified a gap in educator support in the career continuum between induction and leadership. In turn, the district has created a Master Teacher Academy that provides candidate support.
Oldham County Schools transitioned in 2016 from a district office led one-on-one candidate support system to a NBCT leader led school-based system with teachers leading candidates in cohorts.
