Overview
Engaging with the National Board Standards and resources through professional learning grows interest in National Board candidacy and supports candidates. Candidacy will always be voluntary and is a great way to improve your practice when you are ready. Are you ready? If you are ready to honestly reflect on your practice and make changes based on your reflection, yes.
The most accurate and helpful resource for candidate information is found on the NBPTS website.
Make sure to check it out. National Board has a helpful one-page overview of the components and process.

Candidate Support
Candidates wanting help:
Find a network:
Ask your school, district, coop and professional organizations if they have other candidates and support. Through Facebook and Twitter you can virtually connect with other candidates and NBCTs. The Kentucky NBCT Network also is a great way to meet and grow with NBCTs and candidates. |
Find a Professional Learning Facilitator: Professional learning facilitators (PLFs) are trained mentors who are willing to support candidates in cohorts or individually. Candidates can work with the PLF directly to agree to payment and coordinate how much support you want and in what type of setting.
|
Attend training or join a cohort:
Some coops and professional organizations offer one-time training, ongoing training, and cohorts for candidates. If you don't find local support, ask your district and coop if they are interested in providing support; they might not know there's a need. |
See recorded webinars and videos below.
Districts, schools, and individuals wanting to help:
Become a Professional Learning Facilitator:
Professional Learning Facilitators are trained mentors that support candidates. Consider attending PLF training to hone your skills. |
School model:
National Board Professional Learning Schools grow and support candidates. |
District model:
Each district should consider the best way to support candidates given the context of local resources, culture, and goals. |
